Aud-Eats | Amphawa Boat Noodle @ Sutera Utama

[REVIEW]

The Thais have been watermen since the earliest days in the 19th century. They commute by boats through the inland waterways and canals for all sorts of activities from daily errands to trading.

Due to the bustling life at the river bank, the people had slowly came out with a local delicacies named boat noodle. Boatmen serves the soup to people who would come eat on the banks of the canal.

Recently the boat noodle trend spikes out of no where. Now, you don't have to travel to Thailand for it. Amphawa Boat Noodle (located at Sutera Utama Johor Bahru) serves a 300 years history family recipe. Here you will find 2 different broth- Amphawa soup and Rangsit soup. Amphawa soup is the signature of the shop (hence the same name?). It is spicy and sour whereas, Rangsit soup is clear herbal broth.

Many boat noodle restaurant has only Thai rice noodle but Amphawa brings you Thai glass noodle too! Good news for those who love glass noodle right? According to Jason, Thai street food is not only Tomyam and Pandan leaf chicken. There are at least a few hundreds of local delicacies which most people are unaware of. That is why he decided to open this Amphawa Boat Noodle restaurant together with his wife and friends to bring more Thai local delicacies to the people of Johor.
The interior is very simply, clean and spacious.

I quite like this paddles wall.

The beverage/ cashier area.

The 5th Thai King. Heard from Jason that every Thai businessman pay respects to the 5th Thai King because he was the one who changes Thai trading industry.

Lovely lights using the traditional bowl.

The busy kitchen. All kitchen staff covers their hair, month and hands to keep it hygiene and clean.

Thai glass noodle on the left and Thai rice noodle on the right.

Thai ice tea and coffee. Honestly, the Thai ice tea has to be improved. I feel it's kinda bland, lack of the tea aroma.

Glass noodle versus rice noodle; Amphawa broth versus Rangsit broth. Well, I like Amphawa soup more. Sour and spicy, it stimulates the palette more.

They have a selection of chicken and beef. Although I don't take beef but we ordered both. According to LerLer, the beef is nice but the beef ball is too hard.
I love how LerLer arrange the bowls! Love this shot!

I love glass noodle but somehow this time I prefer the rice noodle as I feel the glass noodle is not soft enough, but LerLer and the rest likes the glass noodle more.

This is one of the best side dish, Thai Style Fried Chicken Wings.

Other side dishes are Thai Spicy Chicken Salad, Thai Tempura Vegetables, Spicy Mince Chicken Salad (Lab Gai). Those who can take spicy food should try the spicy chicken salad. It is so so so spicy that I thought my tongue was on fire! Spicy level 5 stars!

Thai Beef Jerky

Another favorite side dish will be this Pandan Leaf Chicken (Gai Hor Bai Toey). The chicken meat is sweetly infused with pandan leaf aroma. Serve it with sweet sauce and it's perfect!

Four of us 21 bowls, not that impressive eh? But we enjoyed the food! That's the most important thing isn't it?

So how can you end your meal without the sweet mango sticky rice and red ruby (Kab Ting Kob) right?

We had a pleasant meal, thanks to the kitchen crew whom prepared all our food! The one in the middle is the lady boss, pretty eh? Again, Thank you for the feast. I will be visiting again with families.
